Sanju is a Rajkumar Hirani’s masterpiece!

The movie, Sanju, is a beautiful portrayal of human emotions by magician Rajukumar Hirani! Although this movie focuses on dark aspects of Sanjay Dutt’s life, it never feels dark. Only Rajkumar Hirani can pull that off.

The emotion level is up there and there are plenty scenes that will stay with you for days. My favorite is the scene in which Vicky Kaushal‘s character pleads with Paresh Rawal‘s character. Vicky Kaushal was simply outstanding! An actor to look out for!

Ranbir Kapoor is at his best! He is pretty much living Sanjay Dutt’s life during the movie. I didn’t see Ranbit kapoor at all. In every scene, I saw Sanjay Dutt. What an awesome acting job!

All the supporting actors were well casted and did a remarkable job. However, Anushka Sharma stood out amongst them. She looks so lively and apt for the role and plays a pivotal role in telling Sanjay Dutt’s story.

Pretty much everyone who watches the movie will feel at least one strong emotion. There is a lot to feel and a lot to learn. Yet it is a heart touching entertainer!

A must must watch! Don’t miss it!

Raazi lives up to its expectations!

I had the pleasure of watching Alia Bhatt‘s latest release Raazi and really had an amazing experience! Raazi is a spy thriller that is well directed, edited, performed and leaves you with a lot of patriotic emotion!

This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. You want to know what’s going to happen next. Alia Bhatt’s performance is so good that it felt natural through and through as if she actually lived this life.  I am not sure how she pulls off such engrossing performance every time but it is a treat to watch her in this one for sure! Another actor that stood out for me was Jaideep Ahlawat who plays his character to perfection! Rest of the cast including Vicky Kaushal has done a great job as well and supports the protagonist extremely well.

There aren’t many songs since it is a thriller. A couple of songs that exist are sensibly placed and take the narrative forward. ‘Ae Watan‘ gives you goosebumps and ‘Dibaro‘ is quite emotional.

Raazi is a must-see experience for just about everyone. A story filled with patriotic emotion and bravery, to say the least!

‘Beyond the Clouds’ is poetic!

There are a couple of reasons why I wanted to watch the latest Bollywood movie release, Beyond the Clouds. For one, its directed by an Iranian filmmaker, Majid Majidi and secondly it is introducing Ishaan Khattar, who is Shahid Kapur‘s brother.

Although I knew it was a serious subject, I went in with no expectations. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the story-line and how it was depicted on screen. It’s amazing to see how hope can be seen in such dire circumstances and kudos to the filmmaker for directing the way he did.

It is certainly a really good movie for Ishaan Khattar to debut in and he did an amazing job.  Malavika Mohanan, who played Ishaan‘s sister in the movie has done an equally awesome job! You can tell the amount of hard work that has gone in essaying their characters. A job well done!

Some of the Mumbai scenes are a treat to watch on screen. I also liked the director’s style, its subtle and poetic! Moreover, I liked the fact that I came out of the theater with a smile on my face. This movie is a lesson to those directors who want to make movies on a serious subject but don’t know how. Most of the time directors make serious subjects depressing and the audience comes out of the theater with no hope. It certainly is not true with this one. Beyond the Clouds is like watching a beautiful poem on screen.

Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety: surprising entertainer!

Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety (SKTKS) is quirky all the way starting from its title to its storyline to its cast of characters! Its probably going to be a surprising hit of 2018. We have to come to a time in Bollywood cinema where big stars don’t pull the crowd to the theater anymore; fresh content does!

SKTKS promises a fresh story and a completely unusual take on love triangles. It has a good balance of bromance vs romance and keeps you wanting to know what’s going to happen next. There were loud cheers and clapping and laughter in the theater on a number of dialogues! All the actors have done a splendid job and kudos to wonderful screenplay and dialogues!

All the songs are a treat for the eyes and ears! A must see entertainer!

Aiyaary – Well scripted & directed!

It was a treat to watch Aiyaary yesterday at the theaters. The first thing that comes to mind is how well scripted and directed this thriller is! Undoubtedly the hero of the movie is the acclaimed director, Neeraj Pandey. The script is layered and every scene has a purpose and more importantly appears at an apt time in the film. And thank you for not spoiling the narrative with any songs!! What a pleasant surprise.

Talking about performances, undoubtedly Manoj Bajpayee steals the show!! He emotes with his face, sometimes without dialogues and was a treat to watch on screen. Rakul Preet Singh did a fine job and Sidharth Malhotra held his own. I felt that Sidharth needed to give more expressions but he looks amazing! Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah have been utilized very well in the script even though they both have a small role.

Aiyaary is an amazing watch for sure. Don’t leave your mind at home, you will need to exercise it a lot to understand the intricacies of the script!

Padman: Movie Review

Padman, directed by R. Balki is quite an inspiring movie, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.

I didn’t have a lot of expectations going in but after watching the movie and seeing the real life journey of Padman (Arunachalam Muruganantham), I found it quite emotional as well as inspiring.

If we talk about the movie itself, I found the first half a bit hard to watch because reality was quite unnerving. However, the second half of the movie is quite inspiring and entertaining as well. Akshay Kumar did an amazing job of showing earnestness and passion that the protagonist needed to show to portray the real Padman. Radhika Apte, as always did an awesome job but for me Sonam Kapoor stood out the most. She looked elegant and natural as if she was meant for the role.

Kudos to Twinkle Khanna for bringing Arunachalam‘s story to life on the silver screen and making a movie on a subject that is not talked about much. I hope the movie creates awareness as well as improves the situation for rural India.

Movie Review: “Three Billboards”

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has been nominated in various categories at the Oscars and I can understand why. I was a bit skeptical about watching a dark comedy but I went for it anyway today and simply loved it.

Often times it’s not the story that makes for a good movie but rather how it is told which is so true in this case. The pace, the narration and the dark humor makes this movie quite unique and intriguing. Although I have to admit there were couple of scenes where I closed my eyes as I couldn’t handle the dark side of the story but overall it makes you chuckle as well as keeps you engrossed to see what happens next. The performances are brilliant and make up for an Oscar worthy movie!
